Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open Was Capped Off by Flexfit
After a weeklong PGA TOUR event at the TPC Summerlin golf course in Las Vegas, Nevada benefitting Shriners Hospitals for Children, professional golfer, Kevin Na, walked away with his first PGA title. The Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open took place from September 25-October 2, 2011, and is the ongoing commitment between Justin Timberlake and the PGA TOUR to continue the tradition of a charitable PGA golf event in Las Vegas to benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children.
With that in mind, Kevin Na wasn’t the only winner to emerge from this year’s 4th annual Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. What makes this stop along the PGA TOUR so unique is the awareness and sponsorship support the golf tournament brings to thousands of pediatric patients in Shriners hospitals across North and Central America. With 22 hospitals throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico, Shriners has been providing advanced medical treatment for children with orthopaedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries and cleft lip and palate since 1922. Shriners Hospitals for Children (a 501(c)3 non-profit organization) does not turn away patients and families regardless of their ability to pay for treatment. For this reason, Shriners relies on fundraising events, like the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, to allow them to continue their research and treatment for children in need.
This is the fourth year that music and film star Justin Timberlake has lent his name to the event, and 2011 marked Flexfit’s third consecutive year as the official hat sponsor of the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.
On September 25th the Goodie Two Shoes Foundation’s second annual Rockin’ Walk opened the week long festivities. Participants in the Rockin’ Walk gathered at TPC Summerlin golf course at 10 AM to walk in support of the foundation’s mission to provide socks and shoes to underprivileged children. Directly following the Rockin’ Walk, Dennis Walters and his canine companion, Bucky, demonstrated various trick shots for local children during the Nevada State Bank Youth Golf Clinic. After a fun trick shot demonstration given by the pros, children participated in a free golf clinic, conducted by the First Tee of Southern Nevada. The first 300 kids to arrive at the youth golf clinic received book bags and supplies from The Office Depot, and Flexfit donated 400 custom logo hats to all children who attended the youth clinic.
September 28th ushered in the much anticipated MGM Resorts International Championship Pro Am golfing tournament where celebrities and amateurs got the opportunity to team up with PGA TOUR golf professionals for an exciting exhibition game. JT Shriners Open host Justin Timberlake, Cedric the Entertainer, George Lopez, Anthony Anderson, Chris Kirkpatrick (N’Sync), Seth Joyner (former NFL player), and Truck Robinson (former NBA player) were among celebrities who enjoyed the beautiful scenery and ideal Las Vegas weather while playing alongside PGA TOUR golf professionals.
Later in the day, various VIP attendees convened on The Hill, a 10,000 square foot tented venue with breathtaking views of the 16th, 17th and 18th holes. PGA TOUR golf pros, celebrities, sponsors, and spectators alike, enjoyed comfortable furniture, a center bar and HGTV while dining on food from Planet Hollywood and Bucca di Beppo. Attendees in the luxury venue got to enjoy product samplings from the Verizon Wireless Lounge, Spicebox Whisky, Lulu B. Wines, Ciroc Vodka and Nolet’s Silver Dry Gin. All Pro-Am participants and honorary members of The Hill were gifted with custom logo hats by Flexfit.
“In addition to our youth clinic participants and various VIPS, Flexfit hats and visors were helpful for the more than 1,000 volunteers that joined us on the course this year,” states Stephanie Maes, Tournament Services Manager.
Fellow sponsors who joined Flexfit in supporting the 2011 Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open included: Coca-Cola, Golf Channel, General Electric, David Yurman, Dell, Inc., Burger King, Rolex, Sam’s Club, MGM Resorts International, Electrolux USA, Office Depot, Planet Hollywood Restaurant, Morton’s Steakhouse, Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, Walmart and Wells Fargo among others.
Through golf event ticket sales, concert ticket sales, corporate sponsorships and the dedication of the 1,000 volunteers who donated their time at this year’s JT Shriners Open, Shriners Hospitals for Children is able to continue providing the best available treatment for pediatric patients in their 22 state-of-the-art children’s hospitals.
