Mauli Ola Completes 4^th Annual Surfers For Cystic Fibrosis Golf Tournament

Mauli Ola Foundation had its biggest year yet, with their annual golf tournament raising nearly $50,000 to provide Cystic Fibrosis patients with ongoing memorable and healing surf experience days.

 On August 2, 2011 at Monarch Beach Golf Links in coastal Dana Point, California, Mauli Ola Foundation held their fourth annual Surfers For Cystic Fibrosis Golf Tournament. The MOF Golf Tournament was established to raise contributions to support Mauli Ola Foundation’s ongoing Surf Experience Day events for young people with the genetic disease, Cystic Fibrosis.

 All funds that were raised at this year’s golfing event (netting nearly $50,000.00 ) go directly towards coordinating and producing Surf Experience Days to benefit children and families who are living with CF. As determined through extensive research, “it has been discovered that the ocean air, when inhaled, helps assist the breakdown of mucus that lines their lungs, making it easier to breath,” according to Mauli Ola Foundation and Ambry Genetics.  MOF Surf Experience Days also provide healthy athletic activity, camaraderie and a much needed morale boost for CF families.

 Hosted by six time Triple Crown professional surfer Sunny Garcia, 144 golfers in total took part in Mauli Ola’s full day of golfing festivities, which began with the shotgun golf tournament. Fellow pro-surfers Kala Alexander, Julian Wilson, Dusty Payne, Kalani Robb, Benji Weatherley, Hans Hagen, Gavin Beschen, Bruce Irons, Julian Wilson, Dusty Payne, Christian and Nathan Fletcher, Fred Patacchia Jr., and BJ Penn took to the links, along with pro-baseball legends like former New York Yankees pitcher, Jared Wright, Chuck Finely and Mark Langston. Hollywood movie stuntman and Cystic Fibrosis research and treatment advocate, Michael Papajohn, was also in attendance.

 After the shotgun tournament, golfers each began at their assigned hole for the MOF golf scramble, followed by an auction with awards, trophies and prizes being handed out.  The day concluded at 6 PM with a sit down dinner for attendees.
